Originating from Silindung, Tumtuman is a versatile type of ulos that can be modified using various motifs, even those borrowed from other cultures. This particular set is partially inspired by hande hande motif. Traditionally, it is used as a tali tali or headwrap by the host’s (hasuhutan) firstborn son to denote his status during ceremonies. Nowadays, it is most commonly used as a sarong and shawl by women in formal settings, especially weddings.
