Ulos Suri-Suri, a typical woven cloth from the Simalungun area, is usually easy to find in every household in North Sumatra, who is still practicing strict Batak customs. In Batak tradition, this ulos is one of the ulos families given by the bride's parents to the groom's mother.
The beautiful combination of colors, shapes, and patterns, gives the impression that it looks alive (idup), thus making many people refer to this ulos as ulos Ragi Idup. In Batak language, Ragi means pattern, idup means life. Therefore, this ulos is often interpreted a symbol of life’s celebration
